![]() Sadly, a new company titled 'Vista Group', independently took over (lower cost) all the media liaison positions within GM, soon after these Hal Needham productions ended. I worked for Pontiac, as a troubleshooter, zone rep, and media liaison, and met a lot of great people working on all those productions. The man who designed and built that 'rocket powered jump car', is Bill Fredricks, a man who designed the 'Shotmaker' camera trucks and the Budweiser Rocket car. The 'broken bridge jump' was actually done by a 'tube chassis car with a fiberglass T/A body on it', out in the California Mojave desert, over flat ground. In the Hollywood Stuntman's TV shows and some of Hooper, they used 'any and all T/A's in production', but when filming SatB, the cars were always WS6 optioned cars. The second-gen Trans Am initially came with the Pontiac 400 like the 1969 models and eventually got the 455 as well. All of the 'action shots' started showing a WS6 car, and the landings (as bad as they got) were a number of regular T/A cars that were sacrificed for the film. Some were modified to 'not flip over', some to 'slide', but none of those 'actual action/stunt vehicles', were not WS6 based cars. This car is NOT a "WS 6", look at the wheels. There are so many variations of vehicles and modifications throughout the different movies, TV shows, car shows and personal appearances, that providing exact provenance for this car shows that it 'did little more than show up for photos'. Hooper (world's greatest stuntman alive) used a number of 'old Smokey and Hollywood Stunt Man's T/A's', to fill in for the attrition of vehicles they wrecked along the way.
